Portrait of filmmaker Addie Knoll in the mountains

I’m Addie Knoll, an independent filmmaker and the person behind Ceanothus Productions.

My first two documentaries explore our relationships with the natural world. Constellations of the Sea took me to the Maldives to examine the complicated relationship between whale sharks and marine tourism. It has received more than 40 awards and selections, including an Audience Choice Award at Indy Shorts.

My second film, Elegy of Salt, brings the focus closer to home. Through the stories of Darren Parry and Chris Carlson, it explores personal connections to Great Salt Lake—and what it means to care about the places we see every day.

I created Ceanothus Productions to give these films, and whatever comes next, a home. As I look toward college, I’m also curious about making a short horror film or parody. The next story might feel a little different.
